Cleansing is the most important part of your witchcraft practice.
There, I said it.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s absolutely necessary if we want to work safely, stay energetically clear and maintain strong boundaries.
Many people may see cleansing as a bit of humdrum magickal housekeeping, but - I find - it can also be beautiful, preparing your space for new energy and signalling the start of a spell or ritual.
You can use cleansing to:
bring in positive energy before a magickal working
clear stagnant energy from your altar or ritual tools
reset your physical and spiritual body after an emotional or trying day
get rid of any residue after someone you don’t like has left your home (ew)
Much of the time, when I write spells and rituals for my Substack, I use smoke cleansing as my preferred method. I have a hand-rolled stick of garden sage that I bring out to waft into all the nooks and crannies of my home.
But not everyone is a fan of getting things smoky.
So, in this post, I wanted to share with you several different types of cleansing that you can use to remove stagnant energies from objects, people, your sacred/altar space or your home.
Try them out and find which ones work best for you!
