Good morning, good morning and happy Samhain, everyone! 😃
Today is the Witches’ New Year! A day to welcome in a brand new turn of the Wheel – today we commune with our ancestors and the long-since dead, so that we can appreciate life, renewal and embracing the now.
This post is actually going to be anti-spookiness. So if you’re all about ghosts, goblins and terrifying ghouls, look away now!
I’ve been a witch for 20 years and, each year, I get so disheartened when people tell me that autumn is the time to appreciate the dark side of life 🍂 I understand that life needs the dark as well as the light to function, but once autumn comes, the darkness sometimes feels all-consuming. Bringing up some not-so-nice feelings associated with the season…
But I want to find joy in Samhain and celebrate LIFE as well as death. I want to walk into the Witches’ New Year with hope in my heart and plans for an amazing year ahead 🧡
Who’s with me?
This newsletter is all about finding ways to embrace the lightness of autumn in the face of darker days. I've put 6 simple ways to do this at the bottom of this email ⬇️
Before we get going, I wanted to say: thank you, thank you, thank you!
First of all, thank you to anyone who has been to one of my half-term events over the past week. It was so fantastic to meet you all and share my passion for witchcraft with you. I’ve loved every minute of it.

Secondly, The Green Witch Writer Newsletter now has over 1,000 subscribers and for that I am so incredibly grateful! Thank you to all my subscribers for reading my words and helping me share the joys of magick and seasonal living with the world ♥️
And lastly (but by very much no means least), I want to say a special thank you to my paid subscribers – ever since I started my membership back in July, you’ve been such a fantastic support and source of inspiration to me. I love reading your comments and witchy insights and answering your questions in my monthly Q&A 🥰 I appreciate you so much and I love this community we’ve created together.
And now, let’s talk about what we came here for:
Samhain.
Let’s find some joy.
If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I’m not autumn’s biggest fan.
There’s a lot of pressure in the witchcraft and spiritual community to be head-over-heels in love with October and these spooky, amber-coloured months. But for those of us with Seasonal Affective Disorder, this can be a time fraught with mysterious crying fits, lethargy and just plain naffness.
Which aren’t the most magickal feelings in the world.
While out on a wet and windy walk a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking about the way autumn has the ability to make us tearful 💧 It's not called the season of water for nothing!
But why?
