Hello there, spooky people. It’s time for this month’s very witchy Q&A! ✨

I’m a liiiiittle bit late posting because I just had to delve into Mabon last week. As I get older, the more Mabon is becoming one of my top 3 Pagan festivals – I’ll always be a Beltane gal though. How about you?

But first I wanted to touch on something a little different – the Sycamore Gap. And not for the reasons you might think.

You will most likely have heard about the shocking illegal felling of this iconic Northumbrian tree last week. The vast majority of people are horrified that someone could have such malicious intent towards a beautiful piece of nature. Others have rolled their eyes and said, “Why is everyone so angry about one tree when the Amazon is being destroyed every day?”

The reason people are up in arms about the Sycamore Gap is because it represents the general sentiment towards nature in the UK right now.

People. Just. Don’t. Care.

The general public is disconnected from nature in such an extreme way and this disinterest in anything other than human life is causing untold destruction to the planet. We are living through the Anthropocene area. Only man is allowed to live.

In light of this, I wanted to share with you a snippet of what I have been writing recently. Underwing: In Search of the Witch’s Familiar and Other Magical Creatures (out October 2024) is not just about toads, black cats and snowy owls, it’s about our lost connection to the natural world and the non-human beings that inhabit it.
