Hello, everyone!
Things are getting nippy and I’m currently reaching for a hot water bottle and a cat to keep me cosy. But the autumn leaves are still giving us a show.
I know that Samhain (31st October) sparked many witches back into action after a quiet year on the magick front. With this in mind, I wanted to share my knowledge of witchcraft tools and objects to help you with your ritual work.
In witchcraft, there is a lot to be said for getting the basics right.
Knowing your magickal correspondences (the Elements, colours, days of the week, crystals and herbs) and how to create a sacred space are two musts for every witch. There’s also a lot to be said for having a sturdy set of tools that you can use in rituals and spells to enhance your workings. I speak more in-depth about magickal tools in my book, The Witch’s Survival Guide: Spells for Healing From Stress and Burnout, but I wanted to share with you how to get started here and now!
In this week’s Saturday Substack, I’ll be sharing:
a witch’s tools and how to use them
the nitty-gritty of ritual work
the dos and don’ts of working with tools
I hope you get a lot out of this one 🧡 Enjoy!
Your guide to magickal tools
At its most basic level, witchcraft really only needs three things:
yourself
a connection with nature
a strong will and intention
Throw in a peaceful workspace and the job's a good’un.
However, witches often use tools to harness and amplify their magick, channelling it through these objects to give their workings a further boost of power.
The tools below can enhance your craft so it is well worth considering adding them to your arsenal. These are the tools I routinely use and have on my own altar. While they are not all strictly necessary to practice the craft, if you do decide to work with tools, I would recommend acquiring them from an ethical, sustainable shop or from outside in nature to keep their baseline energies pure (and to be good to the planet).
But most of all, any tools used in your witchcraft practice are sacred and should be treated with the gentleness and reverence they deserve. Always keep this in mind as you go about your magick.
