This isn’t what I was going to write about this week.
I’d had in mind to talk about FIRE 🔥 We are in the last full week of Leo season and have had a series of scorching days that made me want to harness the crackle of all that potent fire energy. But after several nights of storms, I feel like the weather has mirrored the absolute chaos that has been going on in my life for the past few weeks!
I don’t often write about Mercury Retrograde as I’m not an astrologer (I’ll leave that to
). But when Mercury Retrograde hits 3-4 times a year and the planet of communication looks like it is spinning backwards in the sky - I feel that mayhem in my soul.Between misunderstandings x 100, a failed round of IVF and a whole lot of cancelled events due to covid, I feel like I’ve been living in a bubble of… not-so-pleasant emotions.
Mercury Retrograde has a way of grabbing our deepest insecurities (for me, these are: being disliked, being out of control and letting people down) and dragging them riiiiiiight to the foreground. Cue anxiety, self-doubt and some staring-into-the-bathroom-mirror kind of spirals.
In those moments, what can we realistically do?
It’s time to change my mindset.
Right now, in the midst of all this disarray, I’m setting a boundary with myself. No more of this now - it’s been going on far too long. Only positive habits ahead.
I’m taking back control.

Anxiety, low mood and feeling out of control: these are all things I write about in both The Wheel and The Witch’s Survival Guide. In the latter, you’ll find a panic attack prevention spell, a moving through fear ritual and a protecting your energy with apples spell. But when we’re not feeling so great, sometimes spells and rituals need building up to. They’re not always the first port of call.
I wanted to share with you some of the practices I have restarted that are allowing me to bring myself back down to earth after living in a state of anxiety for several weeks. They are things that blow gently on the embers of my inner peace and centre me when my heart starts to tremble out of step. I call them my Spiritual Self-Care Regime. I think that a lot of the time we are told that self-care looks like moisturising, gua sha and a chocolatey treat while watching Gilmore Girls. While these things are fantastic ways to show yourself love, for me, spiritual self-care always trumps a face mask.
Spiritual self-care is about resetting the soul, not just the body - although the body falls in line shortly after you begin these practices. It is not something that needs pomp and ceremony - just 5 minutes here and there accompanied by 10 deep breaths.
You might find that some of this regime is not what you expected.
See which practices resonate with you and I hope you have a beautiful, peaceful weekend.
